Our award winning Spanish oil is from Catalonia, near Barcelona. This D.O.P (Denominazione di Origine Protetta) oil is made from Arbequina olives and is characterized by being mild and having a very fruity flavor. Handpicked and pressed the same day, this oil maintains high quality and low acidity.
Arbequina olives are small, round, and exceptionally flavorful. They're delicate, but also intensely fruity. They were almost replaced by Picual olives, that provides much higher yields. Luckily, they were literally rediscovered in the 19th century in the village of Arbequa, which lent them their name.
The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture awarded first prize to the Montbrío del Camp cooperative for the high quality and fruity flavor of its Arbequina extra virgin olive oil. This oil has also won a number of leading international awards. For instance, the cooperation won first prize for the best, cleanest pressing system and mill.
Recommended Uses: - Excellent in combination with fish dishes - Mix with your favorite vinegar for salads - Delicious by itself for bread dipping - As a substitute for butter in mashed potatoes
